THE VIEW FROM THE BUS!
October 9th Our day began with a panoramic bus tour of Madrid. What better way to be above it all than to see the sights of the city from on high? "Tiny" Javier, our incredible bus driver, skillfully navigated our bus through these very busy streets. |
THE ROYAL PALACE
In the afternoon we met our local guide for a grand tour of Madrid's Royal Palace (Palacio Real).
This palace is the official home of the King of Spain and is still used by the royal family for state receptions.
(Photography was not allowed in the interior of the palace... trust us, it was beautiful!)

SHADOWS? WHAT ARE SHADOWS?
We're from the Pacific Northwest and frankly, we don't see a lot of these!
Needless to say, we were thrilled by the beautiful shadows and our sun-filled days.

THE ELEGANT AND TIMELESS NEIGHBORHOODS OF MADRID
Hmm, Something Sure Smells (and tastes) Delicious!
Our city tour continued with a snack at Monastero del Corpus Christi, home to a cloistered order of nuns.

When we tour with Rick Steves we are always surprised that we can experience so much of a city's culture in just a short time. We also have exactly the right amount of free-time to explore (or relax!) on our own.

In addition to all that you have viewed above, we spent several awe-inspiring hours in one of the world's most famous art museums, the Prada. There, we saw the amazing works of Goya, El Greco and Velazquez.
